OSLO is the new trendy city in North

Oslo, capital of Norway, one the richest countries per capita, is becoming the new trendy destination for Scandinavian. Even the recent collapse of the oils market probably impacts gently the country dynamism. But the city has developed new assets around the dock city, with trendy restaurants, bars, and luxurious shopping area.

With the time it makes Oslo an attractive place to enjoy business trip. Oil, Fish industry, sea freight, and Blue Biotech (derivate from the sea) are the bigger driver of the local economy and recently a big boom on the real estate to establish the Dock Area.

From a Hotel perspective, Norway have never been a trendy place, as Norwegians prefer the ruddiness of Robur on see front, to the softness of a luxus palace. For years the hotel offer was mainly drive by Scandic Group and Radisson, with some international representative like Hilton. Hotel were clean, basic, convenient, an expensive. Since now 5 years the city wake up and now propose high standard newly refurbished (Grand Hotel, Continental) and boutique hotel and design hotel (The Thief) and cherry on the cake prices are not so high as it used to be as competition increase pressure on price reduction

From Business perspective the Grand Hotel and Continental are both convenient hotel ideally located on the main square and walking distance from the dock. Both have been refresh and offer high quality value for businessman. (Good breakfast, Free Internet, Nice Fitness center and a SPA and an internal swimming pool for the Grand Hotel. Both are cozy style with, gold stuff and soft, a touch of Art Deco Mix Rococo Style (no really my cup of tea) but from time to time that’s fine.  On the top of the hill close to the palace you have a selection of Scandic, and Radisson which are convenient.

I recently experience both of them and my preference goes for the Grand Hotel, (probably due to the swimming pool to relax).

Grand Hotel Oslo – Early 20th century building, on the main square, close to all shopping area and public building. The Grand Hotel offer comfortable room (a little bit small). Prefer the room close the elevator, as the corridor are infinite and there is no really belt services. Not really highly technology oriented, not enough power plate in the room. But good free internet connection. Breakfast room is impersonal but valuable breakfast to start your day.

The Continental Hotel Oslo – Leading Hotel of World – Art Deco building from the early 20th century, The Continental is more a classical hotel, room are clean and recently refurbish, also small room for the basic category. Also prefer the room close to the lift. Breakfast serve on 2Nd level on an old style room with classical services (avoid expresso, prefer the cappuccino). Nice atmosphere on the bar during my venue, with spacious sofa corner, and nice fresh flower display (probably due to Shi-Shi flower shop on the corner). Room (2500 NOK)

The Thief Hotel – Located at the end of the dockside the Thief is a new trendy arty hotel, with a touch of lounge attitude. I never experience but will probably try for my next venue in Oslo. I invite you to discover their website. In summer they have a very nice roof-bar and –restaurant. The Foodbar restaurant offer a very nice new style Scandinavian cuisine. (2400 NOK)

Oslo Radisson Blu Scandinavia – One of the biggest hotel in Oslo, with a nice swimming pool. Good rate for an international hotel in the city center. A classic Radisson, suitable if you have a rental car, with a parking on the corner. The quarter is nice with coffee bar, Italian restaurant. Room are spacious. Business Class Room get my preference (1200 NOK)
